The 2022 harvest at Undurraga Winery in Chile is over

The 2022 Harvest at Undurraga Winery in Chile is over. Grapes have been picked and are on their way to become the 2022 vintages for their wines.

Here is a summary of the season direct from the winery.

The 2022 harvest at Undurraga is over

Overall, the 2022 harvest was quite good in terms of potential quality and the grapes were healthy.

The past two vintages however were very challenging. 2020 due to the pandemic and 2021 because of the rainfall. 2021 was marked by a significant lack of rainfall which, in many cases, was the cause for low yields. This consequently brought forward the harvesting dates.

The overall weather for this season was quite  cool, especially in the coastal valleys where it was cooler than in previous years, producing more intense, fresh, mineral wines. In valleys such as Cauquenes and Rapel, moderate temperatures partially offset the drought effects, resulting in wines with good concentration and balanced ripeness. The harvest was brought forward significantly in Maipo and Itata because of the drought and low yields. It was therefore possible to obtain wines with good concentration and weight in the mouth, with very good aging potential in either oak barrels or neutral tanks.
